Panerai's Two New Luna Rossa Watches and What They Are Built For
On July 15, 2026, Panerai launched two new Luminor Luna Rossa watches ahead of the 38th America's Cup in Naples in 2027, expanding a partnership with the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli sailing team that has now entered its seventh year. The two watches are the Luminor Luna Rossa Chrono PAM01768 and the Luminor Luna Rossa GMT PAM01791, and they represent two different ideas of what a sailing watch is actually for.
PAM01768: The Chrono for the Navigator

The PAM01768 is a 44mm chronograph in brushed stainless steel, water resistant to 100 metres, with red chronograph pushers on the left side of the case and a tachymeter scale for measuring speed. The silver sun-brushed sandwich dial carries rhodium-toned details, grey counters and white Super-LumiNova X2, with the dial's concentric azurage finishing on the sub-dials adding visual depth.
The movement is Panerai's automatic manufacture Calibre P.9210, beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour with a 42-hour power reserve. The watch is limited to 500 pieces and priced at $11,500. It comes on a grey Velcro strap with Luna Rossa's distinctive red line bisecting it.
PAM01791: The GMT for the Captain

The PAM01791 is a 40mm GMT in stainless steel, the smaller and more wearable of the two. It carries the same monochromatic silver and grey aesthetic and shares the 100-metre water resistance, but its point of difference is practical dual-time functionality, showing a second time zone through a red, sail-shaped 12-hour hand.
The movement is Panerai's in-house P.900/GMT, offering three days of power reserve. A significant detail: this is the first Luna Rossa watch to be offered on a metal bracelet, featuring Panerai's tool-free PAM Click bracelet system, making it the most everyday-wearable piece the Luna Rossa collection has ever produced. Priced at $11,400, it is part of the regular collection rather than a limited edition.
Seven Years of a Working Partnership
Panerai's relationship with Luna Rossa is not a simple licensing arrangement. The collaboration has served as an active testing ground for the brand's technical developments, with previous Luna Rossa watches introducing features including regatta countdowns and advanced materials like Ti-Ceramitech. The 2026 watches continue this with Calibre P.9210's precision timing and the GMT's practical sailing utility.
Panerai was founded in Florence in 1860, nine years after the schooner America won the race that gave the America's Cup its name. The brand's connection to Italian maritime heritage runs through its entire history.
